Post surgical bra is to be worn morning and night for 6 weeks following surgery. The bra can be taken off for short periods of time. Please remember to take your garment to the hospital on the day of your surgery. NB: The bra can be cleaned by cool wash and dry.
It is normally good to take a break from the surgical bra for a few hours as long as you keep the operation to a minimum during this period for our routine breast augmentation patients.
After two weeks, you may stop wearing the surgical bra and wear a non-underwire, supportive one. This should still be worn both night and day for an additional two weeks. After four weeks from your surgery date, you may stop wearing a bra at night.
surgical bra can be removed for few hours while taking showers. But it is advisable to keep it on as much as possible as it gelps in providing shape and fullness to the breasts.
It is recommended that you wear the surgical bra/ sports bra for 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week for 21 days. You may remove the bra to shower/bathe. You may shower on the 3rd day after surgery.
Not wearing a bra may affect the final results or cause some post-op complications, so patients should not go braless before a surgeon's approval.
In gynecomastia surgeries or explant surgeries, not wearing compression garments as advised may result in excess skin being left over and associated sagging of skin around your breasts.
Surgical bras should have no seam and fasten in the front with a zipper or clasps. Your surgical bra should be snug but not too tight.
Wear a soft supportive bra for 6 weeks after your surgery, even while sleeping. You may remove your bra when you bathe or shower.
A sports bra will keep the breasts in place while exercising, but it can be too restrictive when dealing with post-surgery recovery. The breasts can swell a little and a sports bra won't leave any room for this.
Not wearing a surgical bra will extend the healing process and may create critical problems, such as bruising, different shape of each breast or poor adhesion of connective tissue, which can lead to a variety of aesthetic defects, and so on.
You may shower 24 to 48 hours after your drains are removed. Your healthcare provider will let you know when you can shower. When you begin showering, take a shower every day to help keep your incision clean. Before entering the shower, remove your bra and the gauze pad covering your incision.
Supports Healing Tissues
A tight-fitting compression bra supports the natural breast tissues as they heal. If you have breast augmentation, a compression bra also prevents your implants from shifting or moving around in their newly created pockets right after surgery.
Patients are commonly given a surgical bra to wear for two weeks after surgery, 24 hours a day. At your follow-up visit, your care team will let you know if you should continue to wear the surgical bra or if you can wear a similar support garment of your choice.
Complete Rest: 2 Days
You don't require strict bed rest after breast augmentation. In fact, it's important for you to get up and walk around to help blood circulation and expand your lungs.
Essentially, you'll need to sleep in an elevated position after breast augmentation surgery for at least one to two months (around six weeks for the majority of patients). The reason is that this position helps to reduce swelling, largely by taking the pressure off the incision areas and the implants themselves.
Fill a container with lukewarm water and gently clean your skin using a soft sponge or washcloth and a mild antibacterial soap. Remember to avoid shampooing your hair until the third day. Patients should also steer clear of jacuzzies, hot tubs, pools, or natural bodies of water for at least two weeks after surgery.
Although not the ideal option to wear immediately after surgery, sports bras can be worn again once your wound has fully healed and you feel ready to go back to sport or exercise after recovery.
Women who plan to have any type of breast or chest surgery or procedure will benefit from wearing a post-surgical bra. Post-surgery bras are an important step in the healing process. The chest area is stabilized and kept free from infection.
A surgical bra is one that is typically made out of high quality fabrics with no dye, wires, or excessive trim. The typical surgical bra will provide 24×7 support to the breasts as the tissues recover, and in some instances, light compression.
However, your stretches will be limited for several weeks after your surgery. Too much strain — such as an overhead stretch — could damage the breast muscles and make another surgery necessary.
