More Latter-day Saint women are comfortable in trousers at church, especially outside Utah and in far-flung regions.
Skirts and dresses should fully cover the entire knee (front and back) when you are standing or sitting. Slits should also start below the knee when standing or sitting. Wear a slip if needed. For safety purposes, skirts, dresses, and slacks should not reach the floor (ankle-length is appropriate).
While dresses and skirts remain the norm at most Latter-day Saint services, pants have hardly worn out their welcome.
What should I wear to a Mormon funeral? It's appropriate to dress in formal attire at a Mormon funeral. For men, this usually means a suit and tie, and for women, a conservative dress, skirt and blouse, or suit and trousers. Women should make sure to cover their knees and shoulders.
Women should wear "professional suits, skirts, blouses, jackets, sweaters, and dresses." Jeans or pants are only acceptable during certain activities, like exercise. Shirts with "cap sleeves" can't be worn alone. But women don't have to tuck in their shirts.
In addition to avoiding clothing that is revealing, we should avoid extremes in clothing, appearance, and hairstyle. In dress, grooming, and manners, we should always be neat and clean, never sloppy or inappropriately casual. We should not disfigure ourselves with tattoos or body piercings.
Church leaders have stated that outside of marriage "passionate kisses", defined as "more intense and last[ing] longer than a brief kiss", and "prolonged kisses that involve the tongue and excite the passions" are "off limits".
Nevertheless, Mormon women are encouraged to buy swimsuits that uphold the church's general standard of modesty. While this does not mean their suits have to cover as much as the garments would, they generally are expected to cover midriffs and to wear bottoms with sufficient coverage.
What should I wear? Just try to look nice. You're welcome to come in any clothes you feel comfortable in. Most men wear suits or button-up shirts and ties, women typically wear dresses or skirts, and children usually dress up too.
Garments are required for any individual who previously participated in the endowment ceremony to enter a temple. The undergarments are viewed as a symbolic reminder of the covenants made in temple ceremonies and are seen as a symbolic and/or literal source of protection from the evils of the world.
Of course, it's important to look your best as a representative of Christ, take care of your body, and be healthy. And it's OK to wear makeup. When used in moderation, it can enhance natural beauty.
As a matter of practicality, an ordinary supportive bra may still be worn by a Mormon woman, but it is placed over the garment rather than under. Mormons do believe in being “in the world, but not of it,” and the garment helps in privately yet consistently setting faithful adult Mormons apart from the world.
Mormon undergarments must be worn day and night by members who have received the ordinance of the temple endowment to remind them of the commitment they made to God, according to Brigham Young University. The LDS Church's handbook states the garments also “provide protection against temptation and evil.”
Mormons, more properly referred to as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are counseled by Church leaders not to tattoo their bodies–as their body is considered a temple and a gift from God. (see 1 Corinthians 6:19–20).
Mormon underwear, formally known as a temple garment, is a type of undergarment worn by Mormons. The undergarments resemble a white t-shirt tucked into long white shorts and are meant to be worn underneath one's clothes at all times.
You should avoid flip-flops, beach-styled shoes, running shoes, or sneakers. Dressy sandals are fine.
In keeping with the Mormon belief that heaven is full of millions of spirits awaiting an earthly body, birth control and abortion are also forbidden. Since the female body is regarded as the tabernacle of the spirit and the residence of God's spirit children, a high priority is given to prenatal care.
Wear professional-style clothing that is consistent with your missionary purpose and sacred calling as a disciple of Jesus Christ. This includes practicing “principles of orderliness, cleanliness, reverence, and dignity” (David A. Bednar, “The Principles of My Gospel,” Liahona, May 2021, 124).
For members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Christmas season is a special time to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. Every year, Latter-day Saints gather with family and friends and recall the tender scene of “the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger” (Luke 2:12).
Women are still supposed to wear skirts and dresses to worship. But women at more than 400 missions worldwide may wear dress slacks at other times. It's seen as a way to ward off mosquitoes. And the Mormons say it also helps when riding bicycles.
Both men and women have dress standards they generally adhere to when attending church. Men wear sports jackets, white shirts, ties, dress pants, and dress shoes. Women wear dresses or skirts, blouses or nice sweaters, and dress shoes. Clothing is modest and not revealing.
Mormons believe in being modest. Our bodies are gifts from our Heavenly Father, and we believe that they should be treated as such in every way. The way we dress is a reflection of who we are on the inside and influences the way you and others act. This is why Mormons are counseled to dress modestly.
Not anyone can actually marry in the temple, but only men and women who are faithful members of the Church. Marrying a non-member is allowed, however, the marriage ceremony cannot be done in the temple.
Chastity Is Sexual Purity
Before marriage, do not participate in passionate kissing, lie on top of another person, or touch the private, sacred parts of another person's body, with or without clothing. Do not do anything else that arouses sexual feelings.
Members of The Church of Latter-day Saints are discouraged from dating until they are 16. If the person you are interested in is under 16, they are not likely going to date you. Keep in mind that once a person turns 16, it does not mean they are necessarily going to want to date.
