Yes, a snake can bite you in the water, especially if provoked or threatened, though it's less common than on land, often happening if you step on one or handle it. Most bites occur from stepping on a snake unexpectedly (like in shallows or surf), with sea snakes and venomous water snakes like water moccasins posing risks, and bites might feel like scratches, so always calmly move away from any snake in the water.
Besides sea-snakes, there are two common snakes that can live in or near water - the cottonmouth (water moccasin) and the water snake. Not only can snakes bite underwater, but water moccasins join a list of more than 20 species of venomous snakes in the United States making them even more of a threat.
I have family that own farms and they have a few tricks to deter snakes. Snakes are usually looking for water. So placing water containers in the corners of the yard can attract the snakes to one area, then you (or a snake catcher) can hopefully capture them and remove them from the area.
