Cash Mob Day Australia : March 24

March 24 is Cash Mob Day in Australia and in many other countries around the world. The basic idea of a cash mob is to encourage people to get together on a certain time and date in a small business in their town in order give the business owner a bit of an economic boost. It is really a great initiative as it stimulates local economy; helps small businesses compete with their corporate rivals and the participants discover new businesses and have a good time. The first Cash Mob was organised in August 2011 in Buffalo, USA. It has evolved to a worldwide phenomenon with events in many countries. For that reason March 24 is now international Cash Mob Day.

Ariel Books, an independent bookstore in Sydney, was the first store in Australia to benefit from a Cash Mob. Since than the initiative has spread over the country with cash mobs popping up in cities all over Australia.
